“Peer Group Pressure”
Peer group pressure refers to the influence children receive from their peers around them. This is especially significant among adolescents. Values of adolescent peer group are popularity, social skills, leadership and athletic achievement. There are two types of peer group pressure: positive and negative.
The peer group is very different from the families and the schools. When we are children or students, parents and teachers always teach us what we can do or what we cannot do. So we learn to respect old people, be polite to each other and more.
A positive influence is a sort of influence that gets people involved in things they can feel proud about and makes them feel good about themselves. According to what I have read recently, members of a peer group have similar interests. Children study together and learn from the social environment. If students are surrounded by high achievement and good study skills, then the most of children will follow it. For example, in my country, students go to children’s centers to practice their English skill. They spend lots of energy to study. They learn about fifty news words per day. As they take matriculation, they got high score of English test. They are proud of themselves and their parents are proud of them also. In addition, adolescent peer groups teach children to be independent. For example, when adolescents go to a boarding school, they must have the ability to take care of themselves and learn some social skills from other people to be independent. For instance, they learn to care about the feeling of others, using good manners and so on.
Negative influences also exist because peer group often develop distinctive subcultures with their own hobbies. Students own behaviors and values will make them get bad credit from their social or academic lives. Because of the bad things that happen as a result of this kind of pressure, they will pay a painful price. For example, some teenagers want to be different from others, so they will learn and create different behaviors that can make them look more special and cool. In addition, there is a very famous movie called “gang members” in my country. They have colorful long hair and body peers. These gangs always like put use their own manners to deal with problems. For example, they smoke, fighting and using inappropriate language and so on. Some younger children are interested in these fashion styles and copy them by being rude and having bad manners. When they have different points, these gang members disagree with each other. They choose to fight because they want to solve the problems, but a bad result is they hurt each other. It is an ill behavior and the result is the members of the gang will drop out of school, get bad grades and even go to jail in the future.
To sum up, the peer group is both a positive and negative influence in our lives. We should know what kind of influence is the best way for teenagers to grow up. In the peer group, teenagers should study each other and to be independent in a positive way. If they have the same interests and to do positive things, they can make dreams come true.

Thorne (1993) found a number of differences in the way boys and girls interact with their same-sex friends. First, girls engage in more cooperative kinds of play, for example, jumping rope or practicing dance steps together. Girls also tend to say “let’s …”or “why don’t we …’to generate this play. Second, girls like to spend time with only one or two best friends. Third, when there is conflict among friends, girls talk about the undesirable behavior of playmates behind their backs rather than to their faces. As a result, a conflict between girls can take a long time to be resolved. In contrast, boys engage in competitive rough-and tumble play and physical fighting. Boys also like to appear tough by making verbal threats (for example, “I’m gonna punch you”). These kinds of threats are sometimes made in anger but they are also made in the spirit of play. Second, boys tend more to hang around with a larger group of casual friends. Finally, boys are more direct and confrontational, so their conflicts are often over quite quickly.

There are many differences in the way teenage boys and girls socialize in China. First of all, when teenage boys and girls make similar mistakes in school, they have different punishments. For example, assuming girls go to school about ten minutes late in the morning, teachers will punish them by forcing them to clean the classroom after school. In contrast, if are boys tardy about ten minutes, teachers will give them punishment such as running around the track five times. Secondly, there are differences in housework between boys and girls. For instance, when parents want to clean house, they usually tend to ask girls to make up their bedroom or wash dishes. They tend to tell boys to take out the garbage or help his father repair a machine. Finally, teenage boys and girls have different kind of relationships. For example, even though teenage girls start to fall in love with boys, they usually don’t want too many people to know that. In contrast, boys like to show their friends when they start to fall in love with girls.

Last week, I had an interview with my classmates. We discussed our majors when we were ready to go to college. We should choose a major which is the beat for ourselves to study in the college, so we need to decide a suitable major for ourselves. First of all, Yan Chen is going to study art because she wants to design new stuff for people. She told us “she used to study design and drawing when she lived in China”. Finally, after she gets an associate, she doesn’t want to continue her studies, because she wants to enjoy the fashion environment and practices her knowledge from school. She considered she needs to work on the application of knowledge, work and the accumulation of new knowledge. Her best subject was math in high school. In contrast, Siyi is going to study Education because she thinks this major is easier for finding a job. After she got her degrees, she wants to continue her studies because she wants to improve her quality of life. When she was a high school student, she is good at math too.

Hurricane Sandy
Dear friend,
Hey, how are you doing? A couple weeks ago, the eastern part of the United States encountered a strong hurricane. I know you watched the news about hurricane Sandy and you were very anxious about me. Now, I am writing a letter to you because I want to tell you something about hurricanes.
A hurricane is a powerful, rotating storm that forms over warm oceans near the equator. A hurricane must be in the specific environment that it can be formed. There are four types of conditions. There must be Low air pressure, warm temperatures, moist ocean air and tropical winds. A predictable disaster was coming on Oct.29. When it packed maximum sustained winds of about 80 miles per hour and made landfall near Atlantic City around 8 P.M, the government told us that we should stay at home until it was over. Although the government was ready for Sandy, she was so powerful that the mid-Atlantic region faced a crisis. After the storm ended, many places had trouble. For example, I heard that a rampaging fire reduced more than 100 houses to ash in Breezy Point, Queens by Sandy. The lower part of Manhattan and 90 percent of Long Island were without power. The huge winds knocked down many trees and this storm killed more than 70 people. Up to now, one big issue which is some areas still without power and the other issue is the transportation, but the government is trying to help us to renovate the damage that sandy left. For me, I didn’t have any trouble when hurricane Sandy came. Please don’t be worried about me and the best wishes to you!

Unicorn
The husband looks out his window one sunny morning and he sees a unicorn in the garden. Although he tells his wife about the unicorn. She doesn't believe him. The husband speaks politely, but the wife answers very rudely. When the husband leaves, the wife calls the police and a psychiatrist. She is very excited because she wants to get rid of her husband. As soon as the police and the psychiatrist arrive, they ask some questions. They ask the husband about the unicorn, but he denies everything about this mythical animal. They take the wife away because they think she is the crazy person. I really enjoyed "the Unicorn in the garden" because the ending is so ironical. I was expecting the police and the psychiatrist to take the man away, but they end up taking the wife away instead. I also like the ending, but the rude wife doesn't succeed in her plan to get rid of her husband. He's polite, but she's rude. She gets what she deserves.and he lives happily ever after.
Independent learning
A few weeks ago, i went to science building to learn about Financial Health. A description of the state of a person or company's finances. Someone with good financial health usually deal well with their finances. If we want to obtain a good credit , we can make our payments on time(over 30 days), and ratio of used credit to available credit. We also knows how to manage our money Someone in poor financial health usually owes a lot of money and isn't making their payments on time. The bad consequence is people got the bad credit and not to easy to buy house, cars and more. People can go to online website www.optout prescreen.com to check their own credit report once a year.
